Argentina Designates Muslim Brotherhood as Terrorist Group

Argentina's Minister of National Security, Alejandra Monteoliva, deemed it 'transcendental' to include the 'Muslim Brotherhood' as a terrorist organization. This, she stated, will facilitate the fight against the activities of such groups operating in different countries of the world. In an interview with Radio Rivadavia, the minister referred to the statement issued yesterday by the Nation's Presidency - which was completed today with a publication in the Official Gazette - that includes the 'Muslim Brotherhood' in the Public Registry of Persons and Entities linked to Terrorism (RePET). Monteoliva clarified that it is a nearly centennial organization that was born in 1928 in the city of Ismailia, in Egypt, and that today it operates in different countries divided into branches called 'Chapters'. As anticipated yesterday by the Argentine News Agency, the Argentine government included the Lebanese, Egyptian, and Jordanian chapters of the 'Muslim Brotherhood' in the list of organizations with terrorist activities. 'The Muslim Brotherhood is a parent organization that does not always carry out its actions directly, but it plays a key role in the doctrinal legitimization, political support, and logistical and financial backing of terrorism,' she added.
